June Member of the Month: TINO DOS SANTOS
From month to month, when we select the member of the month we try and find an individual whose story can serve as motivation for others as they begin their journey at Transition Crossfit and to show that no matter your experience or background that you can reclaim your fitness through hard work and consistency.
The June Member of the Month falls into a category that many people may be able to identify with. The gifted athlete at a young age who may have let their fitness take a back seat because of other priorities as they get older and further removed from their competitive days.
Tino was/is an accomplished Taekwando athlete, qualifying for the Pan Am games and still stays involved in the sport most recently as a commentator and coach for the Canadian National Team. When he came to Transition 3 months ago, his goals were simple he wanted to lose some weight and be more consistent with his training.
Fast forward to present day and Tino is now 30lbs lighter, has improved his strength numbers and has worked hard on his gymnastics moving from 0 pull ups 3 months ago to 5 strict currently.
Congrats on the PR’s, the weight loss and now setting your sights ahead to new goals.
1.How long have you been doing Crossfit?
Started in April 2015. It's been an amazing 3 month journey so far.
2. Name your favourite/least favourite movements?
Favourite: Back Squat, Dead Lift, and all the Olympic lifts.
Least Favourite: Burpees but you just got to do 'em. Oh yah and hand stand push-ups, I simply suck at 'em.
3. What are the biggest changes that you have noticed since you joined Transition Crossfit?
I need a whole new wardrobe. I've lost 30 lbs and none of my suit pants fit me anymore. I've also started to put on some muscle and I'm lifting more weight. When I started 3 months ago I couldn't do a single pull-up and I can now do 5 pulls-ups.
The biggest change however is how a feel; I have tons more energy, less stress, my family is proud of me for the commitment and example I'm demonstrating and I really like my new CrossFit family.
4. Favourite benchmark workout.
Don't have one yet! I really enjoyed Isabel and Grace this past week. I look forward to being able to complete both of these workouts at the RX standard. I also heard a lot of great things about Fran, although I haven't done her yet, I look forward to it.
5. Name three goals or weaknesses that you would like to improve on in the next 3/6/12 months.
1) I want to lose another 20 to 30 lbs over the next 3 to 6 months.
2) I want to build more lean muscle and increase my 1RM on all the key lifts by 5 to 10% over the next 6 to 12 months
3) I want to be able to do 20 pull-ups non-stop within 12 months.
